== Welcome to Blink-Off! Ver 1.1 10/29/91 ==
Tired of staring at the blinking cursor all day? Like to turn it off
and replace it with a non blinking color cursor? Well as its name
implies, that's exactly what Blink-Off does. To tell the truth, the
blinking cursor never bothered me. At least until I started using
Blink-Off. There's something about a steady cursor that grows on you.
Lest you think this is a trivial pursuit I should mention there are
two commercial products available whose primary purpose is to turn off
the blinking cursor. Only they want a nickel shy of $50 to do it.
== How Much? ==
So how much is Blink-Off? Blink-Off is shareware. As such you are
given the program without obligation for evaluation purposes. If
after a 21 day evaluation period you decide to continue using it then
you are expected to become a registered user by sending in the
registration fee:
Blink-Off registration $10
Shipping $ 1
3.5 disk $ 1
Overseas $ 5
Ins Manual for all our shareware $ 5
To order send check or money order to:

(Modem-It! (tm) is a free program that lets you use your modem to easily
place orders 24 hours a day with any participating merchant. Look for it
on any bulletin board.)
As a registered user you will get the latest version of Blink-Off,
technical support, and a program that eliminates the please register
messages.
== BONUS ==
When you register Blink-Off we'll also send you 10 of our most popular
shareware programs (unregistered). Almost all the major PC magazines
have reviewed one or more of these programs. Shareware magazine called
them "excellent" and "impressive".
== Getting Started ==
Blink-Off is a TSR. This means that once run it remains active,
performing it's tasks in the background. It uses less than 1K of
memory.
* To load Blink-Off into memory enter "blink" at the DOS prompt.
* You can toggle between Blink-Off and the normal blinking cursor (and
vice versa) by pressing the Ctrl, Alt, and O (oh) keys at the same
time.
* You can remove Blink-Off from memory (uninstall it) by entering
"blink /u" at the DOS prompt.
== The cursor colors ==
The color of the cursor depends on what size the cursor would be if it
weren't blinking. As you know, many programs change the size of the
cursor to indicate different things. Therefore Blink-Off changes the
cursor color when it notices a change in the cursor size. You
determine what colors it uses by using the configuration program.
* To enter the configuration program:
- If Blink-Off is currently in memory, uninstall it by entering
"blink /u" at the DOS prompt.
- Enter "blink /c"
On the left of the screen the colors associated with each cursor size
will be displayed. To change a cursor color, first use the PgUp and
PgDn keys to select the desired cursor size. Then use the cursor keys
to select the desired color. Press Return to make your selection.
Press Escape to save the changes.
NOTE: Make sure when you pick attributes for your cursors you don't pick
any that would normally appear on screen during any of your programs.
Blink-Off assumes any attribute the same as the cursor needs to be
"erased" if it's not where the cursor belongs.
== CGA Flicker ==
If you have an older CGA and your screen flickers when you use Blink-
Off then use the configuration program to change "Flicker?" to "Yes".
== Etc. ==
Put down the phones folks, I know, I know. When the cursor is in the
absolute lower left corner of the screen it reverts back to a normal
blinking cursor. When you leave that position it will resume its
regular color. Turns out that when DOS scrolls the screen it grabs
the color attribute of the lower left corner to decide what color to
use as the background of the next line. If your pretty color cursor
happens to be sitting there then the background of all new lines will
become the cursor color. I came up with several fixes, but the best
one was just to revert back to a normal blinking cursor when you're in
the lower left corner.
And finally, since the cursor only blinks during text modes, don't
expect Blink-Off to affect your cursor in graphics modes.
== So long ==
That about wraps it up. Hope you find Blink-Off worthy of your
support. Take care.
